The research teams are no longer actively recruiting via this study and so after 7 years and nearly 300,000 responses it will be retiring shortly - for the time being you can still take the tests below but no email confirmations or further invitations to participate will be emailed out and the researchers may take some time to respond to email queries. Many thanks to everyone who has taken part!
We are interested in studying musical perception ability in the general population. The following 2 tests, developed by Isabelle Peretz (University of Montreal), take less than 8 minutes each. They involve listening to pairs of tunes and deciding whether they are the same or different. Once you have completed both tests you will receive your scores.
In order to take the test you need to have speakers or headphones attached to your computer. Please set the volume on your computer to a comfortable level. Test it by playing the following clip.
If you have done any of our tests before you should enter the test-site using the personalised link we previously sent you by email. If you no longer have this email please click the link below to have a reminder.
If you have not participated before but you know that a relative has, please ask them to send you their personal link and use it to enter the test-site. In this way we can keep family data together.
Please try to minimise distractions such as TV or radio before you begin.
When you are ready please press continue to begin the test.
